British Columbia

There are sophisticated towns in British Columbia. The province also provide striking sights, and a diverse geography that gives something for one and all.

With high lands, rivers, seashores, woodlands, and lakes, there are adventures for one and all. Whether climbing, hiking, strolling along trails, boating, swimming in tepid lakes, or lazing on the seashore, there're activities to swimsuit each taste.

BC has some of the most cosmopolitan cities in Canada. It features international art centers, nice shopping facilities and unbelievable dining.

Located on the west coast of Canada, British Columbia is bounded by the Pacific Ocean and the Rocky Mountains. Known generally for its mild climate, BC's mountainous areas are well-known for their world-class skiing conditions. In year 2010, the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games drew in numerous visitors to this gold medal location.

The region which certainly is sustained by a resource-based financial system, has major ports that enable for international trade. Transcontinental highways and Railways finish here. Tourism and outdoor amusement contribute to the financial system, though logging, mining and other types of resource mining are the economic mainstay. Due to the gentle conditions BC's valleys, particularly the Fraser plus Okanagan Valleys, are agriculturally wealthy, although less than five percent of the province's land is arable. Seventy-five percent of the region is mountainous, whilst forest takes sixty percent.

The present southern border of the district was established by the 1846 Oregon Treaty, though lands as far south as California are tied to its history. British Columbia is surrounded on the east by the region of Alberta, on the west by the Pacific Ocean, on the northwest by the Region of Alaska, and on the north by the Yukon and the Northwest Territories. On the south the county is surrounded by the American states of Montana, Idaho, and Washington.

BC's Pacific coastline is above 27,000 kilometers (17,000 mi) long. The coast has mountainous fjords and roughly 6,000 largely-unpopulated islands. The total land area of the county is 944,735 sq. kilometers (364,800 sq mi). Vancouver is British Columbia's chief city by population. Vancouver is situated on the southwest corner of the mainland, named as the Lower Mainland. Victoria is BC's capital city, situated on southeastern Vancouver Island.

A few of BC's awe-inspiring and well-known sight is situated where the Inside Passage plus the Coast Mountains forms numerous inlets. The ecotourism and outdoor adventure industry thrive here.

One of BC's premier attractions are the Okanagan Valley's vineyards. They as well make Cider here. The Fraser Valley plus Vancouver Island's Cowichan Valley also have wine-cultivation locations. Famed for their tepid weather, Penticton, Kamloops, and the small cities of Osoyoos and Oliver have a number of the warmest and longest summer time in the country. The Fraser Canyon towns of Lillooet and Lytton are even warmer; shade temperatures there could exceed 40 °C (104 °F) on summer days and have the benefit of reduced humidity.

The mainland climate varies from sub-arctic prairie and boreal forest in the Northern Interior, to desert and semi-arid plateau, to the range and canyon regions of the Southern and Central Interior. Outstanding pleasant rainforest covers much of the rest of the coast and the western side of Vancouver Island.

Due to its distance from the Pacific Ocean the inland local weather is much less moderate. Common in a few Southern Interior are brief but chilly winters and harsh but infrequent snowfalls. In the the southern side of the Central Interior, the Cariboo, latitude and altitude give rise to colder winters, but the depth and length of the cold season is usually lower than at comparable latitudes somewhere else in Canada. The northern two-thirds of the district are principally hilly and contain fewer people and fewer development. The exception is the Peace River District, east of the Rockies. This region located on the province's northeast forms part of the Canadian Prairies.
