Kelowna City works along with its many community partners to assist and help the city's cultural needs. The city received an award of $500,000 during the year 2004, for being named the Cultural Capital of Canada in response to its vibrant and dynamic Cultural District. For the arts, the Kelowna Community Theatre is operated by the City and boasts of an 853-seat location within the Cultural District. The Theatre has been bringing people together since the year 1062, and it is home to kelowna Community Concert Association, Okanagan Symphony Orchestra, Ballet Kelowna, Viva Musica and Theatre Kelowna Society. Kelowna City even has Public Art pieces situated all through the whole area. These pieces are made by the community's non-profit groups or people. Moreover, Kelowna City offers Arts Grants to non-profit arts and cultural groups that produce yearly arts-focused pursuits in the City. They work in partnership together with the Kelowna Museum, Kelowna Art Gallery, Parks Alive, and Rotary Centre for the Arts.
In Kelowna, there are special events and cultural events. There is rarely any time that passes without their being something fun or new to do. Those who want the experience of festivals can visit and enjoy the Fat Cats Children's Festival, Mardi Gras Street Festival, Parks Alive and Okanagan Wine Festival. Fat Cat Children's Festival is operated by volunteers and funded locally. It attracts several kids and parents each year. Mardi Gras offers restaurants and pubs all throughout the evening. There are even stage performances and children's activity zone including climbing wall and dunk tank. Okanagan Wine Festivals are held three times in the Okanagan Valley. Everybody is invited to try award-winning wines, attend educational seminars, and taste native cuisine. Parks Alive is a non-profit program that brings art and culture to Kelowna's lakefront and parks from June to September.
